Strumber as a sustainable alternative to solid wood

Together with our manufacturer, we are exploring the potential of the new material ‘Strumber’ for use in hospitality furniture. This material, made from hemp stalks, offers a sustainable alternative to traditional wood, combining the strength of solid wood with the ecological benefits of rapidly renewable resources.

Fast-growing and multifunctional

Strumber - a blend of the words ‘straw’ and ‘lumber’ - can absorb significant amounts of CO₂ (1689 kg per m³), aiding forest preservation and the fight against climate change. Hemp, the primary component of Strumber, grows within 150 days, requires no pesticides, and places minimal demands on the soil. Hemp is a versatile, multifunctional plant: within a single growing season, it yields materials in the form of seeds, leaves, flowers, stalks, and roots, all valuable to various industries. Due to its low environmental requirements, hemp can be cultivated on reclaimed land, making it possible to repurpose areas impacted by industrial activities.

Works like wood

Strumber is like traditional wood, meaning it can be processed and finished using the same technologies. This revolutionary wood alternative not only impresses with its ecological and design qualities but also meets all carpentry requirements. It is hard, durable, and easy to work with, allowing for the creation of high-quality furniture and interior elements.
